A former vice chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and proprietor of Gabros International of Nnewi (which has now metamorphosed to FC Ifeanyiuba), Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, has thrown his weight behind former Abia State governor, Dr Orji Kalu’s ambition to mount the saddle of leadership of Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
Speaking from his Nnewi home, the man popularly known as Nnnanyelugo Nnewi pledged to mobilise friends and associates who will raise up to N1 billion (USD 5 million) support fund if truly the former governor declares his intention to run for the FIFA plum job.
According to the Nnewi high chief, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu is a well-respected African football personality with rich and enviable record of achievement that would count for him if he’s interested to contest, hence his resolve to back him.
Chief Chukwuma added that Dr Kalu is most qualified African to mount the saddle in Zurich and solicited for support from the continent for him.
“Nobody in Africa has ever risen to the pinnacle as FIFA president and now that Dr Kalu has decided to throw his hat in the race, I want all Africans to rally behind him to actualise his ambition.
“On my part, I have decided to mobilise my friends, especially in the business community to support the dream to materialise. Together, we can raise up to N1 billion to assist Dr Kalu in the logistic as he will need to travel to lobby other football federations to vote for him,” Chief Chukwuma submitted.
Chief Chukwuma’s support of Kalu’s ambition is coming after foremost former FIFA executive member, Dr Amos Adamu as well as two current members of the NFF board, Alhaji Ahmed Fresh and Alhaji Kawu. These endorsements underline the qualities inherent in the former governor’s managerial acumen.
